Tips for the day
Informants
Some pathways benefit from information from a person who knows you well or knew you during childhood. For child assessments, parent/carer and education input can be particularly important. We will explain what is required for your specific pathway.
For online appointments
Choose a quiet, private place where you can speak freely. Check your internet connection, camera and microphone in advance. Keep your device charged and allow enough uninterrupted time.
For children
Explain the appointment in simple, reassuring language. Avoid coaching your child to behave or answer in a particular way. The clinician needs to understand their natural experiences.
What not to do
You do not need to memorise diagnostic criteria or prepare “correct” answers. It is more useful to think about real examples from everyday life: school, work, relationships, routines, organisation, communication and sensory experiences.
