What a private ADHD or autism report can — and cannot — guarantee.
A common question before private assessment is whether the resulting diagnosis will be “accepted” by a GP, school, university, employer or NHS service.
There is no single universal acceptance rule covering every organisation and every purpose. What matters includes the professional qualifications of the assessor, the quality and completeness of the assessment, the evidence considered, the standards followed and what the receiving organisation is being asked to do.
Who might read your report
GPs and NHS treatment
A GP can review a private report, but a private ADHD diagnosis does not automatically entitle a patient to NHS medication or shared care. Prescribing arrangements depend on clinical responsibility, local policies and the GP or NHS service involved.
Schools and universities
A diagnostic report can provide evidence of needs and recommendations, but the exact process for adjustments or additional support is determined by the education provider and applicable rules.
Employers
Employees may choose to disclose a diagnosis when seeking support or reasonable adjustments. The employer may have its own occupational-health or evidence process.
