Stage 1: Medication is started
Titration is the period after ADHD medication is initiated when the prescriber reviews response, tolerability and relevant monitoring information and adjusts treatment where clinically appropriate.
Stage 2: Monitoring your response
The exact process depends on the medicine, individual response and clinical circumstances. Patients may be asked to provide information about symptoms, side effects and physical-health measures at agreed intervals.
Stage 3: Finding the right plan
The objective is not simply to reach a higher dose. It is to identify a treatment plan that offers useful benefit while remaining clinically appropriate and tolerable.
Stage 4: Review and ongoing arrangements
At the end of titration, the prescriber can review whether treatment is stable and discuss ongoing arrangements. In some circumstances, a shared-care request may be considered, but acceptance is at the GP’s discretion and may depend on local policy.
Staying safe during titration. During titration, it is important to follow the prescriber’s instructions and report significant side effects or changes in health. Do not alter prescribed medication without appropriate clinical advice.
Separate services, clear fees. Diagnostic assessment, medication initiation, titration and ongoing prescribing can be separate services. Before starting, ask us for the current pathway, fees and monitoring requirements. ADHD titration or review appointments currently cost £150 to £195, and medication consultations £195 to £250, where clinically appropriate. Medicine costs are separate.
